Rodney is a large diesel engine.
Rodney was built in the 1960s at the Vulcan Foundry. In 1965, he was tasked with taking Owen, Ryan, and Allan from Port Monteau to Kirkcudbright after they ruined the production of a British Transport Film. Two years later, he brought a mainline charter to Galen Junction for Dave to take onwards to Weymouth.
Rodney is currently painted in British Railways blue livery with full yellow warning panels.
Rodney is based on a British Railways Class 50 Co-Co. This class were known as "Hoovers" because of the sound their air filters originally made. The real No. 50021 Rodney has been preserved and is currently stored at Tyseley Locomotive Works.
The Dark Railway SeriesEdit
- Rodney appears in episodes set in 1965 and 1967 with his nameplates, but the real No. 50021 Rodney was not built until 1968 and not named until 1978.
