Rhys is a Great Western pannier tank engine.
Rhys was built in 1930 at Kerr Stuart works in Stoke-on-Trent. By 1946, he was working on the Falmouth branch line in Cornwall, and was dating an engine named Collette. Unfortunately, she split up with him after thinking he was too fat and lazy, and he was comforted about it by his friend, Eddie. Although he remained glum, he suddenly started giggling and rambling nonsense after inhaling Eddie's now drug filled smoke. This was a major sign to Eddie that something was wrong before he fell under their influence. After Eddie was driven off the dockside at Falmouth by his crew, Rhys pulled him back to Truro.
Rhys is painted in plain Great Western Railway green with "GWR" lettering on his tanks. It can be assumed that he was later painted in unlined British Railways black.
Rhys is based on a Great Western Railway 5700 Class 0-6-0PT. The real No. 7714 has been preserved, and is currently undergoing an overhaul on the Severn Valley Railway.
The Dark Railway Series Edit
- Rhys is possibly named after Rhys Davies, founder of Angry Welshman Productions, creator of Gary the Steam Engine and Over the Hills among other things, and close friend of Dark DJ.
