Like a Sir is the second episode of the third series of The Dark Railway Series.

Plot Edit

Sir Eustace quickly settles back down on the Dark Railway, and soon learns about what has happened on the line during his time away and about the engines who have come to the line in that time. Not long after his arrival, Eustace takes Dave down to Galen Junction and he is taken away by a diesel to the Works for repairs.

Eustace enjoys taking the express services for the next few weeks, but he is soon tired out and makes it known to the other engines. Colin and Eddie, however, do not think he is working hard at all, and claim that they could pull an express better than him. Mr. Dark overhears this, and decides to give them a chance to prove it, as Eustace needs some maintenance the following day. Although initally reluctant, the two accept after Eustace says they are not as powerful as him combined.

The following morning, Eustace goes to the station as Allan and Ryan prepare the long rake of coaches. However, as Colin and Eddie are preparing, Colin suddenly derails on the points leading into the sheds, trapping everyone else in the yard. Determined to show Eustace up, Eddie tries to pull the train alone, but fails to move it more than a few feet. He is taken off the train and Eustace takes over, pulling out of the station with ease. Because of Colin's derailment, Eustace and Eddie are left to do every other job for the rest of the day until a crane is brought up to re-rail him. Angry and embarrassed, the two small engines apologise to Eustace, who laughs heartily at their humiliation.

  • The narrator says that Eustace takes Dave to the Junction to be taken to the works a few days after his arrival, and Dave tells him he has waited five weeks for repairs, but Dave failed on the same night that Eustace returned.
