Burnin' is the seventh episode of the sixth series of The Dark Railway Series.

Plot Edit

One evening, Raymond and Allan are talking with a visiting diesel named Clyde, who admits that he feels bad about how steam engines have been treated by British Rail. The two residents feel glad about how they are safe on the DR, and that they have become better engines thanks to their steam colleagues.

Meanwhile, Turbo is having problems, and it is found that he will have to be taken away and stripped down to solve the issue. In the meantime, Mr. Dark is forced to hire another diesel, and to the engines' dismay, the hired diesel turns out to be Howard. He sneers at the presence of steam on the railway, particularly at the sight of the coaling stage and water tower, but the other diesels are not taken in by his arguments.

Over the next few weeks, Howard remains unpopular with the engines and Mr. Dark with his snide comments when he suddenly finds himself being put in his place by both Repulse, who stands up for herself in a fierce manner, and Abomination, who threatens him with his strength. Turbo finally returns, much to the engines' delight, and Howard slinks off ready to return to the East Coast. However, just after passing Axley, Howard begins to feel hot and bothered, and when he is stopped for an inspection his driver is horrified to discover that his engine room is on fire. His driver runs for help, and Allan reluctantly agrees to help, though he has an idea. Dragging Howard to the Junction, he pushes him under the water tower and has water pumped into his engine room, soon putting out the fire. Howard is in a terrible state, and Allan mocks him for having to be saved by the old technology he mocked and for now looking like a steam engine with smoke coming out of him. Allan shunts him onto a siding and leaves him be, but when he returns a short while later, he finds that Howard has mysteriously disappeared.
